I've been stashing my yarn in a very large suitcase, just waiting for the day I had time to wind it all and start my various dreamed of projects. Once wound, I could beautifully display my stash within my wooden cabinet. There's just one problem…….where's my swift?
It has been in the same place for years. I pulled everything out of the closet and still no swift. So up the stairs I trod to find my lovelies.
First,call Zuzu….she hasn't seen it.
next…..
"Mimi, have you seen my swift?"
"Nope……."
"Little boy O, have you seen my swift?"
"Mom,what's a swift?" Oh..it's the metal thingy I wind my yarn on.
"Oh, is it that naked umbrella?" "Perhaps, I said a bit apprehensively."
Smiling brightly he says,"Well, it's in the tree-house now. When I saw it down in the yarn cupboard I thought,"wow" now look here …it's a naked umbrella. A naked umbrella can't work very well in the rain unless you put the rain protective fabric on it. I couldn't find any of that so I just hung it up in my tree-house, upside down of course, and when you fully extend it and spin it around it makes eco-friendly air conditioning. Especially when you put sticky notes on the little spokes."
"Oh yes, of course, how did I miss that?" (Friends, I want you to know that my modern swift is now perfectly rusted from our Tennessee humidity. Swiftly it spins around but I don't want this mucky thing on my beautiful yarn. So this sweet and inventive boy now has air conditioning in his tree-house.)

Digging through my armoire I find my grandmother's swift which my great grandfather made her. Happily I wound my yarn, remembering my grandma Carol and her knit shop, loving my great grandfather for his brilliance in woodworking, and feeling connected to past in this present moment spinning yarn on a nearly hundred year old swift. As you will see I had a little help winding.
