Handmade Holiday: The Knitted Cowl

This year I'm happily taking part in the Handemade Holiday sponsored by Plain & Joyful Living. Last year I made so many of our holiday gifts and everyone really enjoyed them. Actually they enjoyed them more than I had ever remembered them enjoying presents. This year I'm fully committed to giving handmade gifts, whether handmade my me or someone else.

First project on my list is this knitted cowl. When I came back from Sweden, I had a lot of catching up to do with my blog reading. As I was reading Soulemama's blog, she mentioned this great new yarn company called Quince and Company. Their yarn is so incredibly soft and comes in a variety of colors and all of these colors come in a variety of yarn sizes.

I fell in love with this grey and used one of Quince and Company's patterns to put together this cowl.

I also knitted one for a special friend from my every growing yarn stash. There are a couple more patterns from Quince and Company that I would like to try. I just really love their yarn and their patterns.

  3. Dear Valarie
So lovely to see a photograph of you. I would be proud of that cowl too~! Just love the look of that yarn. Now that I have closed my shop, I have a never ending supply of wool. I hope to catch the knitting bug again soon. I read your post about your “O” . I must say that moment will probably arrive for our little Olivia oneday. I think of ways on how to keep our family together sometimes. I just cannot get my head around my children moving from us. Them not seeing each other..I hope I get slowly prepared for this feeling because right now its almost impossible to imagine.
A happy day to you my friend
    Lots of love

  5. Hi Suzanne,
It’s so great to hear from you. I’ve enjoyed seeing how spring is evolving in South Africa. Don’t worry about the kids moving away. Just love this moment. The rest truly does take care of itself. My kids are committed to staying connected and call eachother several times a day. I could have never predicted this. Secondly, as they get older and closer to going off to university, it becomes so exciting to watch them unfold what they want to discover and become. Thirdly, after sending two away now, …..they come back. They come back all of the time but instead of needing a mom to help manage them they come back looking for their dear friend called “Mom”. I love the relationship I have with my big girls. It’s so different but so wonderful. So just love them where they are right now and collect all of those memories and the journey will unfold as it needs to. Big hugs and kisses to you over there. OXOXOXOX
    love,
