Junk shop/Vintage in Wales

Bryn-Y-Grog is the local "junk" shop. Uh, I don't know about you but a junk shop that starts out looking like this might need to go by another name.

This fine shop is not housed in the manor but in the outbuilding just next door.

From the minute you enter the shop one is immediately touching things saying"Oooh look at that, Ah that's so neat."

Can you find the Swedish twine in the picture below? Isn't it amazing how my eyes can just land on the only Swedish thing in the whole room?

Adding to the cliche myth that Americans love everything "Royal", I walked away with three commemorative mugs. Two of King George VI and one of Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee. They will make great conversation pieces as I scarf down tea and cake. ๐Ÿ™‚ Unfortunately I don't have any photos of them because they are on their way home. Until then I'll just leave you with this photo while you wait. Many thanks Emily for sending my lovely little mugs. I just loved this place.

  1. in my imagination, the only thing better than thrifting in the UK would be thrifting in Scandanavia! I’m sure you were wishing you’d brought an empty suitcase.

  2. How nice that you were quite near us. I have enjoyed a couple of holidays to Wales. I love the look of that shop. I have 2 old church vases that i bought from a similar place a few years ago. looking forward to catching up with your other posts.

  3. I have I missed all these wonderful recent posts? I want to travel! And that “junk” shop? Be still my heart. Many of the local junk shops have gone out of business. I hear it is easier to sell online now, than to pay rent for a brick and mortar shop. But, there is nothing like going to a shop and seeing things in real time and space. Change is always complex, don’t you think?

  4. Everytime I go to Sweden, I wish I had brought a shipping container with me. Truly thrifting in Scandinavia is incredible.

  6. I do think change is complex. While in Wales, many shops had closed there as well because of an online presense. What is to become of all of these storefronts? Where will we wander? Time will tell for sure.

  8. Where will we wander? I love that question! I think it is this need to wander and move out into community that will save our local economies – hopefully.
