What if you turn right instead of left ?
I have walked in Nashville so many times that I have acquired walking patterns. This time however, I was giving a first time tour to Mimi and Omi, and so I walked this way instead of that way. It was the coffee sign that lured us in. What's this? Should we go in?
So in through the glass doors we went to be greeted by an unknown surprise of color.
Hatch Show Print is a wonderful combination of a working letterpress shop, museum, historical attraction and a toursit destination. Really? Why didn't I know about it? Maybe it's because I never came to Nashville as a tourist but for work.
Their shelves and cabinets are filled with around 10,00 basswoood and maple wood blocks, thousands of photos plates, and drawers upon drawers of wood and metal type.
When they say working letterpress they mean it! "During the course of any given year-between enough telephone rings to rival a telethon and visitor inquiries and purchases…..we guesstimate 20,000 folks come through here per year?" They also turn out about 600 jobs a year from a wide variety of interests. Many of which are for sale from years past and left overs.
You have to love a place which has a resident cat.
I will make it a point to go this way instead of that way from now on. Here's to your new discoveries in this day. Have a good one…….
