Pumpkin Bells

Sunday was one of those glorious fall days, where the sun is giving off that shiny glow and the world feels perfect. The night before I was going through an old stack of music and discovered a halloween card given to me when I was 8 years old. It was a Hallmark card with Charlie Brown on the face of a pumpkin. This book like card contained creative halloween carols based on the tunes of familiar christmas carols. So there I sat singing every single song in this booklet….at the top of my lungs…..yes, even the 12 days of halloween.

In my good mood I broke out paper and pen and merrily was writing my halloween week list of things to do when I continued to break out into song. And that's when it happened, yes, I got caught…..Yep I did.

I thought I was in the house all by myself but I wasn't. Loudly I was singing all of my rediscovered halloween favorites in my most loud and perfect opera voice, saved only for such occasions.  As I approached the chorus I was joined by the rest of the opera singing family with wobbly virbratos.

Where did they come from? Really ….they scared me to death.

I had some answering to do however. I was asked by a couple of funny children,"Mom, is this what you do when we aren't home?" "Yes I answered!" What did you want me to say? no….I had been caught with my voice warbling and all.

After my beating heart calmed down it was time to break out all of the pumpkins we had gathered on saturday and have a carving festival complete with songs. I don't want anyone to feel left out so ….after the photos is a round of pumpkin bells. What's your favorite halloween carol?

Pumkins take on a whole new look when you put your head in it.

A roving game of spin the seeds, to see the pattern they make when they stop.

Pumpkin Bells
(to the tune of Jingle Bells)

Dashing through the streets in our costumes bright and gay

To each house we go laughing all the way

Halloween is here, making spirits bright

What fun it is to trick-or-treat

And sing pumpkin carols tonight!

Oh Pumpkin bells, Pumpkin bells

Ringing loud and clear

Oh what fun great pumpkin brings

When Halloween is here.
