I had my own rumpus experience when I was small. Sitting on my sister's lap, being introduced to my favorite monsters all those years ago. There was never any fear of them. Those monsters were friends. Night after night I would meet them before my bedtime slumper would set in.
Many years later on a cold and rainy afternoon, I would sit next to my son with his best friend and his family sitting directly behind us ,watching one of our favorite books unfold onto the screen in cinema fashion. Is what I didn't know was that Spike Jonze would be capturing my son and his created world on screen.
So here's to igloo's built by boys. Flags made out of plastic bags and father's old shirts. Here's to created worlds where fairies and gnomes live. Here's to flights into space and scientific excursions. Here's to treehouse building and meals cooked on open fires. Here's to books and stories shared and the worlds they take us to.
There has been much discussion about "Where the Wild Things Are" and some fear towards the movie, that it could perhaps spoil the book. I can attest that both are spectacular. I rarely place videos in blog posts but this short one minute video is worth the watch. This is what Maurice Sendak thinks of the movie.
