Up All Knight

Thursday, Halloween Eve Eve…or two days before Halloween,

(Mimi enters room)

"Mom do we have any refrigerator boxes? …….Mom, do we have any dowel?………Mom,do we have any glue sticks for the hot glue gun?……..Mom ………"

(Little boy "O" enters room)

"Mom, do we have any fur? I need to grow a beard. ……Mom, do we have a galvanized bucket for my helmet? …….Mom, Mimi used all of the glue sticks. Mom…..

(Zuzu on the phone)

"Mom, do you have a sword and shield? I'm going to be a glow in the dark Knight this year."…….

and so it went for two days. Long gone are the days where we start planning and constructing our costumes in August. We looked a bit like the "Jim Henson Workshop". Is what made this year's costuming construction a little more challenging is that shy, quiet , MImi decided that she wanted to make a grand entrance at the party, therefore, her costume had to be done in secret……from everybody. We had to close our eyes all of the time. I had to loan her my car because her costume wouldn't fit in the small car. We had to leave before her to the party so that we wouldn't see her. It was worth the wait though, her sister gave her the best costume award as did many others.

We proudly present………..

Balloon Girl.

It's sort a cross between balloon boy and the movie "UP". The basket is woven refrigerator box, cut into strips and then hot glued into place. The straps are from my quilting stash and the balloons speak for themselves.

Next up……the Knight who Say's Knee or is it Nie? Anyway…..he was much more interested in spouting off his best british accent while reciting the Knights who said Nie part of the Monty Python script, in lieu of trick or treating a lot. He made a few houses but just really enjoyed being out with balloon girl and her friends.

I don't have a photo of the Knight that didn't say NIe but glowed in the dark. I'll post one when I see one. As usual this is one the greatest holidays to celebrate in the year. A huge thank you to Gay and all of the Orr's for always having a wonderful bash. Hope you had fun where you were. 🙂

  2. I particularly like this line: “Mom, do you have a sword and shield? I’m going to be a glow in the dark Knight this year.”
It’s not every day you hear that!!
