The captains's chair sits empty this year. It's on days like today that I really hold my father in my thoughts. He was so proud to have served in both the Navy and the Army. He would tell you clearly that he wouldn't have gotten an education if it were not for the armed forces. Many of our family members are currently in the military or are retired. Today is their day, to thank them for their dedication and service to all of us.

About a year ago when we were visiting family,Zaina and I headed towards Mt. Hood for an evening drive. We didn't expect to see a field of American flags, but when we did, we had to stop and discover why they were there.

One flag stands for every soldier from Oregon who has been killed in the war. This flag represents 5 members from the same family. This is too great a loss.

For all of those who serve this country, I give you my thanks . Please take two minutes out of your day for a moment of silence to remember all of the men and women who have served their country.

This is a beautiful post. There is a feeling of emptiness on a day like today for me, but also a sense of amazement at the men and women who serve this country.
