A stolen moment_0602_edited-1

I know!……that's a weird title but I couldn't sum it up any other way. This morning is glorious. The sky is a bright, bright blue. The birds are singing. The flowers are in full bloom and I'm just a little giddy with all of this summer happening around me. Today is truly the first day of summer and it was my mom's birthday. We will celebrate Midsummer on Friday and throughout the whole weekend. The Swede's celebrate Midsummer the first friday after the 21st. So this gives me all week to cook my brains out, make flowers wreaths and poles, and clean the treehouse for this fine event.

Today, little O goes to camp for the very first time. We spent most of yesterday writing his name on everything. He's a little nervous. Isn't quite sure if we'll survive without him but he can hardly wait to get up there and start communing with the smoky Mountains.

Ok …so where does the pirates come into this midsummer celebration? My whole little family is so excited about the Treasure Island book adventure over at Jump Into A Book. Each day will uncover an new part of the adventure. Today we are dressing, talking, and naming ourselves like pirates. Tuesday is arts and crafts day better known as pirate doings, Wednesday has us eating pirate food, Thursday we'll be playing the best games ever and it includes a treasure hunt, Friday will have us swabbing the deck as we sing our favorite pirate tunes, learn a little more about the author, sharing our own adventures during circle chat and at the very end, a list of resources to help you find everything you need to make a pirate's life of your very own.

On July 6th is Treasure Island day where you get to blog about your own pirate adventures. Everyone will link over at Jump Into A Book for a day filled with pirates and such.

It is never to late to join us. If you would like to go on the blogroll leave a comment here or over at Jump into a book or send me an email at jumpintoabook@gmail.com .  You do not have to enroll to enjoy the activities. Just come over and have fun.

A huge thank you to my family, our friends and neighbors who have come out of the woodwork to help make Treasure Island come to life.

  3. Hej Hej
Jag ticker om din blommar 🙂
I’m so excited about the Treasure Island book and activites on Jump into a Book…We are a democracy here in our family and disect and discuss everything. My sons are 12.5 and 14.5 and do not read enough. They asked why have you got the book from Ebay and I explained to them that we would be having family read aloud time from 21st and this is the book we will be ready…that just went oh ok. I think they just thought it was a mad mum idea again. We read the 1st chapter together this evening. After they got over their initial 3min of giggles I think they quite enjoyed. I haven’t mentioned activities yet! But yahoo hope this is a start of a really good thing.
I promise to email you…so busy busy here
    GOD BLESS
    Kram

  4. Hej på dig. Ah tack så mycket. Welcome back from London. I’m so glad you and the boys will be joining us. Treasure Island is such a good read aloud book. Sorry I haven’t emailed lately either. It’s been just crazy. I’ll have a few days to linger up at the stuga. My little guy is away at camp this week.
Did you watch the wedding on saturday? I was glued to the laptop on svt.se . Honestly, I’m now convinced that I’m a hopeless romantic. I loved every minute of it.
Be well and will catch up soon.
    puss och kram,

  5. Beautiful garden flowers and great pics of the kids. We are quite a bit behind on Treasure island…life got in the way and my daughter was gone most all of last week. We’ll jump in when we can or just wait until the next book!
    happy day happy solstice!
P.S. I need to find time to go back over your blog to catch up on all your wonderful fox posts! Perhaps now that activities are slowing down a bit I can find that time !

  6. Hi Marcia,
Thanks so much for your kind words. It has been a bit crazy over here too. There isn’t a schedule for Treasure Island. Just do it as you can. It will be up way after Treasure Island day so don’t worry. Happy Solstice to you too.
The foxes made an apperance over the last two days and even left me a little food offering on the front door stoop. Hope things calm down a bit for you. Enjoy summer.

  14. That last month of school is a killer. It’s busier than Christmas time if you ask me. The way the book adventures are working is that I’ve set a date just to have a little community of book jumpers but the adventures will be up for quite some time. If you find any foods, crafts or games that strike your fancy , just do them and have your little version of the adventure. I’ve just shared some ideas but it’s not on a schedule. If you feel like doing treasure island in February it will be there to do.Keep me posted on what you all get up to. Big hugs and kisses to you and also to that cute dog snap. Oh how I love whippets. Be well friend.

  19. Thank you Valarie – that was such an understanding response – obviously a mama who has gone through it herself and understands the weary bones I have at the moment – I love the idea of joining in later and will keep you posted on what we get up to. Enjoy all your pirating – Snap sends a bark and a lick too! Big Hugs Em x
