A Snowy Afternoon and Happy Three Kings Day

Snowflakes

Snowflakes

White as frozen light

Where darkness dies

And heaven lies

Incarnate on the ground.

Yesterday afternoon the forecast called for rain but instead fell the most lovely snow I've ever scene. The largest, fluffiest snowflakes covered the ground. It seemed life had turned into a snow globe.

Along with snow was my husband's birthday and now today it's Three King's Day. King cake is a tradition here in the south but since my body is in a state of" renewal" I will not be eating any.

As a child this day didn't really mean anything to me but as an adult I look at it as a time to acknowlege the inner journey.  My friend Eileen from Little Acorn Learning has written and produced the most lovely e-book about the Three King holiday and the ephiphanies this day can hold for you and your family. Inside there are stories, songs, recipes, poems, crafts, and by the time you've finished you will have had a complete journey into the light of Ephiphany. Also contributing are ~ Jodie Mesler, Home Music Making, Jennifer Tan, Syrendell, and me.

When I finished reading the e-book I felt so inspired. It left me wanting to go out and create light in my work, community, and home. To have a look for yourself, head over here.

  1. it’s true..there’s nothing like an unexpected snowfall. It’s like an instant upgrade on the scenery–from gray and brown to a shimmering, beautiful white. And there’s something about snow falling at night that is just so magical to me.
The three kinds e-book piqued my interest, as this day doesn’t hold any particular meaning to my family right now. I am always willing to learn more and create new traditions, though. Thanks for the link.

  2. A couple of years ago I bought a beautiful vintage set of ‘Feves’- little ceramic nativity figures that are baked into the ‘galette des rois’ at Epiphany in France. The one who finds the feve is king for the day, we don’t bake the cake but the little characters are a part of our yearly traditions now…I have loved having a view of your Epiphany Valarie – I might have to ask for the recipe for that cake! Happy Birthday to your husband, enjoy your snow! xx

  6. I love an unexpected snowfall. I remember when I was living in Atlanta in 2000, and we got this crazy large amount of unexpected snow. It was like life stopped for everyone, and you could hear the collective laughter and joy in the air.
    Enjoy every moment :).
