Go to the Valley

Yesterday started out white. When I went to bed it was a normal night and when I woke up I saw this lovely vision yelling loudly to come in.

I didn't really comprehend that there was a lot of snow on the porch. It wasn't until I let katten in and could barely get the screen door open that I noticed this.

Yep, a big dose of the white stuff. It was still snowing and I couldn't even see the street. It was so so quiet and had that wonderful fresh crisp smell. So it was time to get in my Nanuk of the North outfit and head out……

A path was forged by my loving husband who went to the hospital to work. (Our neighbor Laurie took a photo of his car slowly driving down the road at 7 am and posted it on Facebook.) The snow was so deep, a good 7 inches I figured, and it was still snowing.

Down the road and over the hill, between the trees,

and eventually through the tall tall grass, lies the valley.

A place where many generations have sled in winter and played capture the flag in the summer.

When I first got to the Valley, there were only a couple of friends. As we caught up with our lives and what was going on, more and more people came. Though I've made it sound like a nature preserve of snowboarding/sledding bliss, the truth of the matter is, that this valley is our neighbors backyard. Many thanks go to our neighbors who embrace all of us trudging up and down their hills, laughing and screaming with delight, as we make these moments into memories.  Be well and happy snow days.

  3. Valarie, we have really enjoyed the snow! And you have such a faithful, dedicated husband to brave the roads to the hospital to get to his patients! There is a time & season for everything and days like this causes us to slow down, reflect, ponder, & connect with others. I don’t mind our snow days!
P.S. I was thinking about your little fox family and wondering where they were and if you have seen them yet. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Hej Julie,
No I didn’t knit my scarf I bought it in Stockholm at H&M. It’s so soft and warm. And yes that was my hubby. Enjoy your snow as well. Happy Winter.

  8. Hi laurie,
we’ve really been enjoying the snow here as well. We can’t seem to find clear roads to get Mimi back to school though.
Our little fox family has reconfigured. Momma Rennie was taken by animal control and re-released into the wild. The four kits are all grown up and have left the area except one. Hulda still lives over here by the our treehouse in the woods. I haven’t seen her in a month and am suspecting she is pregnant. We’ll have to see what spring brings. In May, the book I’ve written about them will be published and released. It was such a magical moment that time with the foxes.

  15. What a perfect snow day! We are having a snow light year and I don’t like it! I love it when the snow falls deeply, there is something magical and childishly gleeful about the whole thing. Love your coat, I have one very similar!

We visited our own “valley” too and what fun sledding is. truly.
the (snowy) world is so pretty right now! I love when every branch of every tree has a little pile of snow on it.
