~June 1776 Powell House~

The day is warm. The morning holds a heaviness in the air. Nonetheless we head out to the gardens to see what will be for eating this day.

  1. Dearest sweet Valarie, such a wonderful place and an awesome day! I really love those cute hats the ladies have on! 2. I have LOVED the past few posts…. I visited Williamsburg ages ago when visiting my husband at a training. I do so hope to get back there with the children. What a rich experience! The photos are fantastic!

  3. Sorry if this ends up a duplicate post, but lost my connection mid-post.
At first I thought this was a pop-in, see the sights, pop-out sort of adventure, but I’m beginning to think you must have a Reliving Williamsburg Reality Vacation Package. Unless you did a switcheroo with the Williamsburg actors, stole food from their gardens and took over an exemplary cottage? I’d love to do the Reality package if there is one!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Wow – that all looks so much fun! I have some questions….Are you still allowed to talk to me or am I the enemy now? Are you coming back? or are you trapped forever in the past? Will you take to wearing long skirts? (I was going to say and silly hats but I know you wear those anyways lol) Are you able to watch TV or are your sing along days over for ever?…..I will await the smoke signals! ๐Ÿ˜€

  6. The kids just loved this! They are actually saying they miss the 18th century.

  7. There are so many ways to do Williamsburg. Kids until the age of 14 can rent costumes. Anyone can come dressed in 18th century grab but once you’re dressed you are committed to the 18th century. You can stay in several of the homes and there are a variety of activities to choose from. Intermingled are the period actors but at times it’s hard to tell who is who. The Powell house is an interactive farm for children and families to experience an 18th century farm…..including the laundry.

  8. So nice to see you’re feeling better my cheeky friend. Even King George III couldn’t come between us. I will come back directly after Cornwallis takes hold of Williamsburg. Given the day, I’m either trapped in the past or stuck inside a book. Oh and of course wearing one of my silly hats. You know a silly hat is good in any century. Long skirts are good for natural air conditioning, you should try it some time. I’m sending smoke signals to the song Let it Be. You know the words, sing a long. Actually, people brought their own entertainment to the pubs and we did the same by bringing our instruments and good solid voices. We spent most nights in song at Chowney’s Tavern. Ok I think that does it for now. Still being in the 18th century and a part of the British Kingdom, you see we were once part of the same empire, I say “God Save the King”. Now I won’t be able to say that when I get back to the 21st century. Huzzah for now dear friend.

  9. My dear friend
I have your very book opened in front of me and am over joyed at its contents, photography and soul. Well done to you Valarie. I can see this being your stepping stone to many more. Thank you for this.
I have so enjoyed your recent and last few posts this morning. I would love to experience a day in the 18th century. I could fit into that life without hesitation. Valarie the post on the Bees. I am definitely going to buy this movie. I hope I can purchase it somewhere. This is such a great concern here too. The african killer bee is dwindling too. I would love a hive of my very own.
You have a wonderful ‘O’. Such a lovely face.
    Love to you Valarie

  10. Hello dear Suzanne
I’m so happy the foxes have come to stay with you and that they are bringing your family pleasure. We greatly enjoyed our time in the 18th century and have really missed it.
As for the bees, the movie isn’t out on DVD yet. It’s still playing in theaters. It’s expected out this month or next. Here’s the link http://www.queenofthesun.com/store/dvd/
Please check and make sure that it works with your system in South Africa.
Now I’m off to send you the chicken soup recipe. Check your email.
Big hugs to all of you and much love,
    Valarie
