Poppies, Poppies, Everywhere

With the Baltic Sea behind me,

I faced the most glorious field of red poppies that I had ever seen.

I just had to go run through this field. Ever present in the back of mind was that scene from the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy was in a field of poisoned poppies which made her sleep until Glenda the Good Witch made everything ok with a good snow storm.

"Kids, I have to run through this field of poppies. If I fall asleep I'll wake up during the first snowfall. Promise ! " And with that I was off.

My friend Emily shared her lovely purple poppies over in Wales. Which got me thinking, "I should share my poppies." So here we are. During the summer, each week hosts different blooming flowers here on Gotland. They aren't shy about it either. These lovely blossoms bloom in vast fields and on the sides of roadways all over the island.

Happy Day to You !!!!

  2. Oh, I can imagine the thrill of finding a whole field of these crimson blooms. We happened upon just a small garden of them and I withdrew my camera with so much excitement…so, a whole field would have had me thrilled as you were. Your photos are beautiful. What a beautiful place you are lucky to be visiting! -heather

  4. What is it about poppies that are so enchanting? They really capture the imagination don’t they? I am lucky to be visiting this place. It’s the island my parents are from and one of my happy places on earth.
